Fairfield Librarians To Discuss Dangers Of Fake News

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – It spreads through social media like wildfire and has Hilary Clinton involved in an underage sex scandal and President-elect Donald Trump taking “golden showers.” It’s fake news and two Fairfield librarians want to teach you how to spot it.

Matt Bernstein and Nicole Scherer are set to host a fast-paced conversation about the dangers of fake news during two sessions on Monday, Jan. 23 at the Fairfield Public Library.

In addition to teaching how to spot the much-discussed and much-maligned phony news stories, the pair are expected to speak about ways to cut through the jargon and gibberish to find the facts.

The first session of the day – from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. – is strictly for teenagers interested in the topic, while the 7 to 8 p.m. session is open to both teens and adults.

Both sessions are free and scheduled to be held in the Rotary Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.

While not required, registration in advance is requested.

Bernstein and Scherer will provide valuable information on the fake news topic with Bernstein approaching the discussion from his role as reference and instruction librarian at the DiMenna-Nyselius Library at Fairfield University and Scherer approaching the matter from her position as head of teen services at the host library.
